SUNDAY, September 29                  16 Pentecost

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, and in their eagerness to be rich some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pains.

Having enough money to cover bills and living expenses offers options and space to think about the needs of others. Too little money causes constant, wearing anxiety about how to meet basic needs like shelter and food, leaving little room for any other concerns.

With money, we can purchase the lie that just a little more money or a few more shiny things will make us happy. We soon find out that a little more usually just brings more unmet desires.

When money is pursued to provide a sense of insulation against the coldness of our fears, those fears become the most prominent features of our spiritual selves. And a spiritual life rooted in fear will never lead us into the way of abundant life.

MOVING FORWARD: Are you happy with your relationship to money and possessions? What can you do to improve that relationship?
