Matthew 7:25 The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock.

I was in New York in August 2017 when I heard that Harvey was going to hit my hometown of Houston as a category 4 hurricane. I caught one of the last flights to Houston so I could be with my family.

The rain fell, the floods came, winds blew and beat on Houston and many small towns up and down the Gulf Coast. But our city did not fall. Houston remains. We are strong, a swampy city built on the solid rock of love for one another.

People from all over the United States and the world have come to offer aid and comfort to us as we continue to rebuild.

In the midst of the recovery from Harvey, I wrote a song for my city: But there’s one thing we know even when we are confused. Faith and love lend a hand, united we face the truth. We are strong, we survive. And, we hold on as we cry: We are strong, we survived.

MOVING FORWARD: Write a love song for your own hometown.
