TUESDAY, November 3                  Richard Hooker

Psalm 62:1-2 For God alone my soul in silence waits; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold, so that I shall not be greatly shaken.

For those of you reading this in the United States, today is Election Day. By tonight we will know who the president will be for the next four years. No matter where you place yourself on the political spectrum, this will be a momentous day.

What better time to be reminded by the psalmist that our salvation comes from God alone? No earthly principality or power can offer us the solace and strength, the pardon and renewal that we receive in Jesus Christ.

In a world that seems controlled by a 24-hour news cycle, moving from one scandal or outrage to the next, it is good to be reminded that we are living in but one moment in a stretch of time that spans millennia. Our hope rests only in the Lord.

MOVING FORWARD: Pray along with Morning and Evening Prayer today. Visit www.forwardmovement.org/prayer for more ways to pray!
