Psalm 75:4-5 I will say to the boasters, “Boast no more,” and to the wicked, “Do not toss your horns; Do not toss your horns so high, nor speak with a proud neck.”
So too is pride. The producers take special notice of the players who pat themselves on the back. Nearly every episode features a contestant bragging about his or her prowess. And nearly every time, the braggart is brought up short, is voted off the island, and exits the game.
Pride goes before the fall, as the proverb says.
Time and again, the Bible talks about the sins of pride and self-righteousness that keep us from whole-heartedly loving and trusting God. Humility doesn’t make for compelling TV programs, but that’s the strength of character God wants to see in us.
MOVING FORWARD: Do you need to do some work on your high horns or proud neck? How will you humble yourself today?
