MONDAY, February 3                           Anskar

John 6:29 Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent!”

What is the work of God today? Prayer is the training ground for our life of faith, and it calls us to be emotionally, psychologically, and spiritually involved in God’s work in the world. Prayers are not simply to be said or thought—they are to be lived out with the grace of the Holy Spirit.

As Christians, our work is never done in isolation. We work alongside God and our siblings in faith. Prayer provides the opportunity for us to deepen our belief in God—in our hearts, minds, and souls. Jesus, the beating heart of the work and prayer of God, calls us to know that setting our hearts, minds, and actions in him is the only requirement.

Believing in Jesus is experiencing the handiwork of God—salvation and grace in a world in sore need of it. For us, the work of God does not exist apart from the Word of God.

MOVING FORWARD: How does your belief in Jesus shape the way you do God’s work in the world?
