SUNDAY, March 3                  Last Epiphany

Luke 9:29, 35 And while he was praying, the appearance of his face changed, and his clothes became dazzling white. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him!”

We sometimes see glimpses of transfiguration at a wedding, the birth of a child, or the celebration of some significant accomplishment. “She was glowing,” we say. “His face lit up.”

What if we could see that light and recognize belovedness in every face?

We live near a large high school. Students sometimes skip class and trespass through our neighborhood; occasionally there’s vandalism. Students frequently paint a large rock near the doors with birthday greetings or messages supporting school events. Shortly after the walkouts and marches following the Parkland school shooting, the rock proclaimed: “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” Trespassers transfigured.

You can’t un-see transfiguration. The disciples are changed by what they see, and we can be too.

MOVING FORWARD: When was the last time you witnessed a transfiguration in your life? Tell that story to someone today.
