WEDNESDAY, March 3                  John and Charles Wesley

Psalm 72:6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown field, like showers that water the earth.

In my gardening experience, I have learned that the rain nourishes my plants in different ways: It feeds the plants and washes off any dust or dirt or even excrement. The rain turns that debris into fertilizer, signaling the seeds to germinate, and encouraging fungi to help with the growing process.

In Houston, it rains quite frequently in the late spring and summer, and the air stays humid even when it’s not raining. The moist air waters the plants, so they don’t wilt and die in the heat of the summer. Even if plants are under the lip of a roof, the water can get to them, ensuring that they flourish.

God’s blessing is like the rain, nourishing us in different ways so that we can grow and flourish. And even when we build barriers, God breaks them down and showers us with blessings.

MOVING FORWARD: Clean water is vital for the health of individuals and communities. Consider making a donation today to Episcopal Relief & Development, earmarked for a clean water initiative.
