WEDNESDAY, April 3

Jeremiah 18:6 Can I not do with you, O house of Israel, just as this potter has done? says the Lord. Just like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

While on sabbatical, I wanted to participate in activities to stimulate and restore my whole self. I also wanted to spend time with my family—especially my son. To my surprise and delight, he took a pottery class with me.

Once seated at our own wheels, we seemed to be surrounded by peace. I remembered how very much we are all like clay, molded and shaped by the Master Potter. Like a piece of clay on a wheel, we are molded, reworked, and formed by God into something beautiful. This act of creation requires time, nurturing, and precision.

When we fall or fail, God gathers up our broken pieces and reshapes us into vessels of purpose and character. We are all works in progress, and we are not yet complete. Day by day, God is reworking us, molding us, and willing us to become bearers of a holy image, of love, light, and life.

MOVING FORWARD: How is God reworking you right now? What do you think comes next?
