Matthew 4:18-20 As [Jesus] walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him.
John the Baptist is the star of the show for most of his career. He has disciples who follow him, including Andrew. When Jesus shows up, John accepts demotion to second fiddle, and Andrew leaves him to follow Jesus. Andrew wastes no time introducing his brother Simon to Jesus. Andrew moves to the back row with grace and understanding. Growth in discipleship means learning to be faithful, whether in the first row or as second fiddle.
MOVING FORWARD: What do you need to do in your life to be content playing second fiddle?
