SUNDAY, December 30         1 Christmas

John 1:18b It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known.

We can’t ever be Jesus, but we can see what he does and strive to be like him. Living out a faith and loving out a law are the fruits of that labor. Being like Jesus is doing the work he has given us to do and not making that work small or stingy or belittling the reasons why we do it. We feed the poor and pray for the sick and love the unloveable because this is what Jesus does and what he has asked us to do alongside him.

Doing the work Jesus has given us to do is loving Jesus with our whole selves. It’s seeing the Jesus in others when they are expressing joy and mercy and justice. But we also recognize the hurting, poor, hungry, lonely Jesus in the faces of our brothers and sisters, as well.

Loving is praying, and our love in action is prayer being made manifest. Praying is abiding in God’s heart.

MOVING FORWARD: What will your love look like today?
