WEDNESDAY, December 30

John 8:11 She said, “No one, sir.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way, and from now on do not sin again.”

Camp Barnabas was a place I loved visiting as a child and young adult. A camp for disabled children and adults, Camp Barnabas was a place where many of us could feel relaxed and free to be ourselves, together with other disabled people. Some of us also served as staff volunteers, which I genuinely enjoyed.

One day, I volunteered to work with the older intellectually disabled campers. Things did not go well for a variety of reasons. I learned some hard lessons about my own biases and resentments, places where I struggle to see others as I want to be seen. It was a tough day for all of us. In the end, each of us, in our own way, learned some new ways to love and be loved, to forgive and to be forgiven.

MOVING FORWARD: What lessons about love and forgiveness have you learned this year? How will those lessons help shape 2021?
