MONDAY, September 30
Saint Michael & All Angels (tr)

Revelation 12:10a Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, proclaiming, “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Messiah.”

Being a Christian is a bit like being grounded at an airport during a storm: We never know when we’re leaving. Countless believers have been motivated by a sense that Jesus’ return is imminent, and yet here we still are two millennia later. We have a very different sense of urgency about the timing of Christ’s return than the first followers of The Way.

We live in an in-between time when the reign of Christ is already-and-not-yet here. We are called to live fully into this liminal moment and we also understand that we shouldn’t get comfortable.

Stuck in this strange airport, we need to make it as livable as possible. So, too, our lives as Christians. This space and time are neither where we came from nor our destination; however, we are commanded and compelled to make it as much like the kingdom of God as possible.

MOVING FORWARD: Spend some time with the reading from Revelation today.
