THURSDAY, October 31

Matthew 13:23 But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.

Last November, I went to Guatemala with my son and my parents. We lived there in the early 1970s, while my dad attended seminary. I wanted my son to see where we lived and where his grandparents had planted churches.

While we were in Guatemala, many of the men and women my parents had mentored thanked them for their teaching—not only about the gospel but also the practical side of ministry. They told us about others who, because of my parents’ teaching and example, had become evangelists, teachers, pastors, and mentors.

It was such an honor to hear people thanking my parents for their faithfulness and for sowing on good soil. Often, we do not see the fruits of our labors. My parents’ witness, passion for God, commitment, work, and faith has returned to them more than a hundredfold. And I am but one example!

MOVING FORWARD: Think about the folks who have offered you kindness and hospitality. Treat any little (or big) guests you may have tonight with the same kindness.
