WEDNESDAY, March 31                  Wednesday in Holy Week

Hebrews 12:1-2a Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.

As we run toward Easter, Lent can seem to drag us down.

Perhaps during Lent we have been thinking a lot about our sins. Sin is anything that weighs us down, anything that separates us from God. It can be easy to dwell on our sins and get stuck there, thinking that we can never approach God.

But our liturgical calendar gives us encouragement. Throughout the year, we celebrate the lives of saints—sinful people like us who have done extraordinary things and run the race with perseverance. Their example reminds us to keep our eyes on Jesus.

As we live our lives of faith, we need to take off the weight of our sin and keep running, knowing that the great cloud of witnesses is cheering us on—and God is guiding us until the end.

MOVING FORWARD: Research your favorite saint.
