TUESDAY, February 4                  Cornelius the Centurion

John 6:51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.

A little fish spent its life asking other fish where to find the ocean. An ancient sea creature told the little fish that it was, in fact, swimming in the ocean. The little fish couldn’t accept that this was the ocean and continued to believe that all it was doing was swimming in plain old water.

Jesus spends his ministry explaining how we are to swim in the ocean of God. Jesus invites us to dive headlong into the deep ocean of God’s love—not to just splash a couple of times or paddle around but to abide, reside, and thrive. When Jesus tells us that it is the Holy Spirit that gives life, we should believe him. Jesus invites us to see that life is all about the fathomless ocean of relationship between us and God.

MOVING FORWARD: Ask Jesus to lead you to a place of living that shows the depth of God’s love, salvation, and justice.
