FRIDAY, July 5

Psalm 142:4 I look to my right hand and find no one who knows me; I have no place to flee to, and no one cares for me.

I’ve told myself this lie many times since moving from Richmond, Virginia, to Seattle, Washington. No one cares for me. I don’t have my family of origin, or the friends I know from grade school, college, or summer camp. I don’t have all my warm acquaintances from old jobs and social circles. Yes, I say to myself. I’m totally alone and no one really knows me here.

These words keep me from seeing the abundant love surrounding me. I look down and see my dog Oliver cozied up beside me, loving me with his very existence. I receive a text message from a new friend or an old one who wants to catch up. I look to the skyline and see the wild beauty that surrounds this city and am reminded of God’s love and of how Jesus understands and meets my deepest needs. I am known and beloved.

MOVING FORWARD: When was the last time you needed a reminder that you are fully known and totally loved by God?
