Psalm 37:4 Take delight in the Lord, and he shall give you your heart’s desire.

I am a very happy person—I can find something to smile about in any situation. My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 37:4: “Take delight in the Lord.” This phrase reminds me of the joy I feel every time I see my son and the delight I feel when I hear him making music.

I can say with conviction that God has given me the desires of my heart. I don’t think that if I smile at God, I get what I want. Rather, the psalmist is reminding us of an attitude of gratitude that helps us see how generous God truly is. Often, little silent heart-prayers will reveal themselves as I see them manifested in front of me: singing at an event, earning my doctorate, traveling for work.

I recently complained inside my heart about traveling and that still small voice said: You prayed for this. Immediately, my smile came back; I remembered this verse and took delight in God.

MOVING FORWARD: What is your heart’s desire?
