FRIDAY, December 6

Amos 5:4-5 For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek me and live; but do not seek Bethel, and do not enter into Gilgal or cross over to Beersheba; for Gilgal shall surely go into exile, and Bethel shall come to nothing.

I believe God can do whatever God wants to do, including investing humans with extraordinary gifts. A prophetic word is given so that by following what God has asked us to do or not do, we understand what will logically happen if we do or don’t do as God commands.

Amos prophesies that if the Israelites seek God, they will live. However, if they head back to Bethel or Gilgal or Beer-sheba—communities known for general debauchery and injustice—they will suffer.

Likewise, when we invest time, money, and loving intention on the things of God, we feel closer to God and more alive. When we don’t, we don’t. That’s not a prediction or a punishment. It’s simply connecting the dots. Sometimes that’s the most important thing a prophet can do.

MOVING FORWARD: When have you received a word from a prophet in your life that truly changed things? Share that story today.
