Hebrews 1:14 Are not all angels spirits sent to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?

From The Archives: February 27, 1995

Who ever imagined a creation so limited that human beings were the best God could do? Creatures winged with the wind, “molded in beauty...subtle as flame” are hardly surprising if God is able to shape black holes and spiral nebulae.

Where does the idea come from that Christianity puts us down as miserable wretches hardly worthy of God’s attention? We are made in the image of God. If you’re impressed with angels, remember that our destiny is greater than theirs. They are “ministers in the divine service;” God sends them to serve us.

Angels are messengers of God but it is Christ who is “the reflection of God’s glory and the exact imprint of God’s very being,” who comes to call us to our higher potential and greater destiny. How could we ever be content to settle for less?

MOVING FORWARD: When has the extravagance or scandalous nature of God’s love surprised you? Tell that story by using #ForwardDayByDay.
