SATURDAY, April 6

Psalm 107:35 He changed deserts into pools of water and dry land into water-springs.

My grandmother used to sing an old gospel song, “Trouble Don’t Last Always.” As I have grown older, I’ve started humming it to console myself. The lessons of the song still ring in my heart, reminding my weary soul to just hold on. This too shall pass.

The psalmist offers insight on handling troubled times. We are all, at various times, battered by the storms of life. We may choose to run for the hills or be led by the guidance of the world, but there is no earthly power that can provide a sanctuary of peace and care other than God.

When we turn inward, we rely totally upon ourselves, but when we shout to heaven, God hears our cry. From the deepest pits of our lives, God lends words of comfort and leads us out of the wilderness into pastures of peace—where springs of love restore us.

MOVING FORWARD: Is there a special song or psalm you think of when you feel troubled? Share it by using #ForwardDayByDay.
