FRIDAY, December 7

Psalm 22:28-29 To him alone all who sleep in the earth bow down in worship; all who go down to the dust fall before him. My soul shall live for him; my descendants shall serve him; they shall be known as the Lord’s for ever.

If the spectrum of human emotion could be equated to the keyboard on a piano, Psalm 22 would hit all eighty-eight keys. Advent is one of those seasons that can touch all our emotions as well. We joyfully prepare our hearts to welcome Jesus, and we sometimes weep over those we love and see no longer.

Today, many people may remember the attack on Pearl Harbor, and the church celebrates the life of Ambrose of Milan, one of the doctors of the Church. It’s a mixed bag, this day—of course, so are all the other days in our lives. We rarely live a wholly great day or a wholly bad one—we usually have some of both, and thanks be to God for that. Psalm 22 speaks right to the heart of that notion. May it speak to your heart today.

MOVING FORWARD: Spend some quiet time praying along with Psalm 22 today.
