Luke 13:12 When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, “Woman, you are set free from your ailment.”

Scuttling after the crowd, the crippled woman moves like a crab, unable to stand up straight. Just to catch a glimpse of the man she’s heard so much about will be almost impossible, but it will make her long, difficult trek to town worth it. The pain of twisting her neck and glancing sideways fills her eyes with tears and all she sees is a sea of backs and shoulders moving away.

And then she hears the voice calling her. Who here even knows my name? Later she will describe it as the sweetest voice she has ever heard. Without fear, she moves toward the voice.

“Woman, you are set free.” Suddenly she stands straight. Suddenly she is pain-free. Suddenly she can see everything, including the kindest face she has—and will—ever know.

Even when we are bruised and broken and cannot see Jesus, we listen for his call and move toward the wholeness he offers. Only then will we be set free from all that ails us.

MOVING FORWARD: What is one step you can make toward Jesus in your search for wholeness?
