TUESDAY, September 7                  [Kassiani]

Mark 16:15 And [Jesus] said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to the whole creation.”

As a hobby farmer, I think a lot about the intersection of faith and all things agrarian. And as an evangelist, I think a lot about what good news is exactly and what it sounds like to various people. When I read today’s gospel selection, I wonder: What does good news sound like to the whole of creation? If I proclaim the good news that love has come down to walk among us, to heal and reconcile us, how do I communicate that not only to my fellow humans but to all species? What do healing and reconciliation sound like to the earth? To the sky? To the mountains? To my chickens?

In evangelism trainings, we teach that before you can talk, you must listen to the stories of others. You must build authentic and loving relationships where the sharing of good news can flourish naturally. The same is true for our relationship with our environment. We must build authentic and loving relationships with the land and its inhabitants first. Only then will we truly know the depth and breadth of what it means to proclaim the good news to all of creation.

MOVING FORWARD: How can you bring healing to creation?
