1 Corinthians 15:35-38 But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?” Fool! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. And as for what you sow, you do not sow the body that is to be, but a bare seed, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain. But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body.
The New Testament insists on the resurrection of the body. It refuses to be carried away with the Greek belief in a “spiritual” immortality, whereby we “escape” the prison of the body. Food and digestion may belong to this earth, but the body belongs to Christ. The body has its place in the great design of redemption through the resurrection of Christ.
This means that though we shall not continue in this same physical body, we shall continue as the same person. In the next world we recognize our loved ones; we can be with them and love them and are with God and love him.
