Psalm 80:3 Restore us, O God of hosts; show the light of your countenance, and we shall be saved.
My college dorm neighbor posted a sign on her door, declaring she had found Jesus. Another, more cynical student wrote on it, “I didn’t know he was lost.” Such was American culture in the 1970s. People commonly asked others if they were saved.
Decades later, in a discussion on the topic of salvation, my friend Fr. Bill adamantly declared, “I am saved. I have been saved, and I will be saved.”
I agree with Fr. Bill that salvation is more than a one-time event, even for those who have experienced dramatic conversions. We can, and most likely will, lose our way, forgetting who has saved us. But we know that once we’ve been saved, we can be saved again and again.
