TUESDAY, September 8
The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Acts 14:11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they shouted in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have come down to us in human form!”

Paul and Barnabas have just healed a man, lame from birth, in the name of Jesus. The people are amazed and attribute the act to the men before them, not the God they serve. We only see what we know how to look for.

By putting Edison’s face on the light bulb, we erase the inventors who had early, non-commercially successful prototypes and the numerous assistants who worked tirelessly under Edison’s tutelage. We also miss out on the incredible technological creativity of the age—we are drawn in by the flash and dash of mass marketing and artificial enlightenment.

I wonder what else we miss when we look for greatness in the person rather than seek to understand the world that makes them and their achievements possible. Are we looking for I AM or Apollos?

MOVING FORWARD: Do you know any unsung heroes? Sing their praises to someone today. Share your story with #ForwardDaybyDay.
