MONDAY, November 9 Richard Rolle, Walter Hilton, and Margery Kempe

Luke 14:21 So the slave returned and reported to his master. Then the owner of the house became angry and said to his slave, “Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.”

I struggle with Luke’s parable of the wedding banquet every time I read it. There is no satisfying resolution for me. When the guest is cast out for not wearing a suitable wedding robe, the reason so many declined an invitation to this banquet seems clear. Would you be interested in attending an event with such a strict dress code?

But what if we see this parable as a story of God in Jesus Christ? Are we the backup wedding guests, gathered from the sin and brokenness of our lives in the street, invited into a heavenly banquet? All that is asked of us in return is to put on our garment of celebration and enjoy the bounty spread before us.

MOVING FORWARD: Read today’s lesson from Luke. What do you think this parable means? Share it with us by using #ForwardDayByDay.
