MONDAY, December 9

Revelation 1:8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.

A friend of mine has the following quote as his email signature: It’ll all be all right in the end. If it’s not all right, it’s not the end. I hear echoes of this when Jesus says he is the Alpha and the Omega. In this declaration, he signifies the beginning and the end in a deeper cosmological sense.

Advent reminds us that we are still waiting for things to be all right again. Every one of us loses hope at times. But Jesus the Word of God was not only present in the beginning of time; he will be at the end of it as well.

It will be all right in the end—this is not a far-off hope. The Alpha and the Omega “is, and was, and is to come.” Is. Here. Now. God is not far away, and so we can have faith and keep hope that things really will be all right.

MOVING FORWARD: How do you remind yourself that God is always near? Share this insight with a friend.
