Mark 9:50 Salt is good; but if salt has lost its saltiness, how can you season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.

I would like to be a salty old woman. Maybe I already am. While people consider my mother a kind, lovely woman of wit and intelligence, she also has a little saltiness. She isn’t crude or rude—just plain-spoken and honest. Once, when someone was whiny and dramatic, she said, “I know a big deal, and this is not it.” She broke the power of the dramatic display and used her saltiness to create peace.

Our salt, or seasoning, makes us unique. It keeps us from being bland and characterless. Too much salt can overpower all other flavors and make the food inedible. Too little salt can leave food bland and tasteless. With just the right amount of saltiness, you can be a perfectly seasoned dish—and, perhaps like my mom—able to bring peace through honest communication.

MOVING FORWARD: Do you need more salt (or less) in your life? Pray for guidance in being perfectly seasoned.
