MONDAY, March 9

John 7:16-17 Then Jesus answered them, “My teaching is not mine but the one who sent me. Anyone who resolves to do the will of God will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own.”

Have you ever been put on the spot to speak from the heart and not had the slightest idea what you would say until you heard it coming out of your own mouth? In such moments, following a hurried prayer of surrender, I have heard poetic strains fall from my lips as if from the heart of God. And surely it was not my doing. In such moments, I have gained insight into the phrase, “not mine but the one who sent me.”

Some combination of surrender and willingness seems to be at work in such moments—as if the resolve to do God’s will becomes activated in surrender. Moses surrendered his fear, trusting that powerful teachings would come forth from his mouth. The same was true for Paul. Jesus told the temple authorities who doubted his authority that, if their hearts were set on doing God’s will, they would recognize Jesus’ teachings as God’s own.

What powerful teachings within you await your surrender and trust in order to manifest in your life?
