TUESDAY, April 9

Romans 10:10 For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved.

Our hearts are the cores of our beings—physically pumping blood and emotionally serving as the place where our judgment, character, and beliefs are formed. This complex muscle, and all the analogies we’ve drawn to understand it, allows us to serve and love God with our whole selves. Without the heart, the brain doesn’t really matter.

When our emotional hearts become clogged with negativity, we cannot project the light and love of Christ. If emotional baggage is hiding in our hearts, we must work to deal with it through God’s mercy and wisdom. When our hearts are clean—wide open and full of love—we are primed to serve God and others. The condition of our hearts shapes our faith and our discipleship.

May we be reminded to guard our hearts so that what pours forth are offerings of thanks and sacrifices of love.

MOVING FORWARD: How is your emotional heart health? Do you need to make an appointment for a check-up?
