Galatians 3:28 There is no longer Jew or Greek, there is no longer slave or free, there is no longer male and female; for all of you are one in Christ Jesus.

College basketball is a quasi-religion in my part of the world, and March Madness is its most holy season. Folks identify with their preferred school or athletic conference and tout their allegiances on shirts, vehicles, billboards, and even tattooed on their skin. Insulting another team is second only to insulting someone’s mother. I like to think that Jesus is a basketball fan, and I’ve occasionally asked him to help out my team.

Basketball aside, we all have our teams—group identifications that categorize our lives. Some are helpful, others less so. Ultimately, being a follower of Jesus is about declaring our membership in the Body of Christ, which includes members from every team and label and identification imaginable.

The more we are knit together as one body in Christ, the less we worry about divisions and barriers—about who’s cheering for whom. We may have our favorites, but ultimately, Jesus is rooting for us all.

MOVING FORWARD: How can you encourage your family of faith?
