Luke 24:10-11 Now it was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and the other women with them who told this to the apostles. But these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them.

I can’t help but feel angry that the other disciples struggle in disbelief about the message these women share. Jesus foretells his death and resurrection, so hearing from these women that it has happened shouldn’t be perceived as an “idle tale.” These women have journeyed alongside Jesus—at considerable risk to their lives—yet they aren’t believed when they tell of this profound experience.

Even if the male disciples can’t believe this chorus from their sisters and mothers and friends, these women are still chosen, favored with the revelation of resurrection. They witness the living, breathing Jesus bringing the gospel into full flower and share that news with the entire, sometimes-maddeningly disbelieving world, and no one can take that from them.

MOVING FORWARD: When was the last time someone struggled to believe an important story you were trying to tell? How did you respond?
