Luke 19:41-42 As [Jesus] came near and saw [Jerusalem], he wept over it, saying, “If you, even you, had only recognized on his day he things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.”
Stephen Decatur said, “My country! In her relations with foreign powers may she always be right! But right or wrong, my country!”
This is our country, right or wrong. When America goes wrong, we do wrong, not the government, nor uncontrollable forces, but we the people. It is dangerous to think that because our personal intentions are right, we are therefore not involved.
Christians would be more effective, become more true to the New Testament, if we really believed we are members of one another. We might work harder if we knew there was no escape, from the gospel standpoint, into irresponsibility.
